Trump Dump

“We’re all going to die,” it said. While there was jest and hyperbole in that, there was also genuine alarm and the dark realization that Trump would not be transmogrified by the oath of office into anything approaching a dignified, responsible statesman. No, his extra power was just making him extra mean, and what we saw before Nov. 8 was what we got from Jan. 20 onward: a child in a man’s suit, a knave in a knight’s armor, a dangerous experiment with unforeseeable consequences.

This has been said a million times: Donald Trump is a lying, narcissistic, manifestly incompetent child man who is as dumb as a sack of mackerel. But he is the president of the United States because 63 million people preferred that to facing inevitable cultural change. So I am done asking — or caring — what’s wrong with him. Six months in, it’s time we grappled a far more important question.

What in the world is wrong with us?

He is almost too easy to lampoon.

I have been asking that last question since election day. How can the Trump supporters, defenders and apologists NOT see him for what and who he is (even now)? How can the "Bernie or Bust" supporters who abstained from voting for Hillary not see what the consequences of such a childish, petulant stance would be (i.e., the complete obliteration of anything and everything Bernie stands for)? How could minorities just sit at home in ambivalence just because Hillary is not Obama, when all the progress that has been achieved since 1964 was so obviously at risk? How could ANY woman vote for this misogynistic pig who think sexual assault constitutes a "greeting" and that he is "entitled" to walk in on young women and teenage girls in various states of undress (probably traumatizing the latter) without consequence? He is now the face of America, and my fellow Americans, how can we DARE look in the mirror and not feel shame at what we see?

Actually it's the whole of the Republican party that been corrupted. They haven't been rational since just before G. W. Bush jr. Any method, no matter how underhanded, to get in power they have used. The Republican party I remember in the 60s, 70s and 80s were open to compromise and fair dealing. We got some and they got some. That's the way politics are supposed to operate. Now it's by hook or crook.
I love the complete silence from them through the last 6 months. I guess they are OK with Trump being the representative of their party. He fits the bill.

Absolutely agree, Dr. G! It's been going on since Newt Gingrich and the mid-90s Republicans took out their Contract ON America (misnomered as the "Contract With America" at the time)which basically was the genesis of the obstructionist "Party of No" and the end of any form political compromise with their Democratic colleagues, regardless of the needs of the country or its citizens (the sole exception being the brief period after 9/11/01).

As for their complacency with Trump, I think they have just decided to make lemonade. I think they have decided that the Romans had it right. The people want Bread and Circuses, and the Trump administration is the biggest circus out there - full of clowns, freaks, smoke and mirrors, and hire-wire walkers teetering over a dangerous fall. And the masses and media are so distracted that the Republicans are able to do things like gut the Dodd-Frank protections that were put in place during the last Wall Street bailout to avoid a similar financial crisis caused by predatory lending practices. Yeah, it made CNN, but almost as an afterthought to whatever crazy shit the President or his cronies said or did today. Republicans are operating quietly in the wings, passing their agenda while everyone is so distracted by what is going on in the center ring to notice.

It's called cognitive disodance. They can't admit their mistake lest they feel bad so they will find some sliver to explain his totally lack of fitness for the job. Kelly Anne has to go to hell after what she has used her talents for. Truly despicable but the GOP is worse. They are so dysfunctional that I hope the people do something about them in the midterms, especially McConell but they won't. And THIS is why you fail.

And I say it again. In a country AWASH in guns' can't one lunatic take the shot. Oh that's right. Progressives don't do that kind of shit. Only right wing idiots take out their frustrations on people with guns.

Either way I call SCORPION.

jester, that is indeed the really horrendous part of what's going on. The good things about our country are being dismantled (on orders from their corporate overlords) while we pay all our attention to the idiot in the White House.
And Cal, you're right. I know lots of 'liberals' that own and shoot guns. We just don't shoot people with them. Not willy-nilly anyway.

I am just infuriated that while they are taking away other people's health insurance while Congress gets GOLD STAR coverage. So fucking corrupt but what can you do. Nothing. You just have to take it. I am so glad I live in Canada because we would not put up with that shit for one second.
