Former Edmonton Oiler Dave Semenko Passes Away At Age 59

Sad day. I was there for their great run in the eighties. and Dave was a big part of that. He kept all the other players from messing with Gretsky and gave him the second he needed to find a player like Kuri to pass to and generate goals. The Great One also avoided the concussions that have hurt players like Crosby and Lemieux because Semenko was there to keep the goons from  hurting him extending Wayne's career by at least five years. Dave was a great skater which people forget and could more than hold his own against anyone in a fight or in the corners. And he scored more goals than a goon like him ever was expected to score. He was also a great guy off the ice as well so we all mourn his passing here in Alberta.

Yes, it's a sad day. He was one of the best enforcers that ever spilled someone else's blood on the ice.

Like a good Canadian boy should have done. It was his dedication to that role that I respect.
