On His Own And On The Run

The story of how Obi Wan Kenobi survived the twenty years before Star Wars and after Revenge of the Sith would make an interesting movie or stand alone animated feature in the 'Clone Wars' style. He must have been on the run for awhile until the was able to hide himself in the dry hills of Tatooine - just close enough to keep an eye on Luke, one of the children of Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vadar).

This statue beautifully shows a desperate man on the run, trying to stay alive while living with the knowledge that all his friends and allies are dead, betrayed by HIS Padawan learner. Obi Wan's blind spot over threat that Anakin represented doomed the entire Jedi Order and I would like to see this stage of his life carry some consequences for those truths.

I see an angry Kenobi who had to learn to forgive himself before he would ever be of any use to Luke and LUKE is the key to winning the battle against the Sith evil and restoring balance to the force. I am glad that Obi Wan got over his self-pity in time to mentor Luke at the right time that Luke needed to start his journey toward heroism.

What I enjoy most about this figure is that it does a great job at bridging the years between the end of Sith and the beginning of New Hope - between actors Ewan McGregor and Sir Alec Guinness. You could see every long hard year etched on his face - the stress causing him to age at twice the rate of a normal man. Unable to use the force to slow his aging process, lest he be detected by the Dark Side, Obi Wan sacrifices his physical health in order to more successfully complete his mission.

Sideshow Collectibles proudly introduces the next entry in the Star Wars Mythos line, Ben Kenobi. As a nomad, wandering the desert landscape of Tatooine, Ben carries a unique collection of mementos, the weight of the memories they contain as heavy as the pack itself.
