Comic Stories You Have To Read - 1

Next to 'Kingdom Come', 'Red Son' is my favorite comic book story. It imagines a world where baby Kal-el's spaceship landed in Russia and not the United States. That meant that Superman was raised in the Soviet Union and adopted the values of Communism.

All the characters you know are still there - Wonder Woman, Batman, Green Lantern, Bizarro, Braniac but they have been altered to fit in this new world.

It's fascinating story that centers on the endless battles between Lex Luthor and Superman. You will never look at Lex Luthor the same way again. In the universe we know, Luthor hated Superman for the mere fact that he was an alien and so powerful. Luthor resented the fact that there was someone out there who was better than him. The hatred was personal.

In this story, Luthor comes across as more of a good guy. He is a patriot and does what he does to help his country from being taken over by a powerful force that is not only alien but foreign to the United States.

In many stories that have a good premise, the execution of that tale is a letdown. This is one of the rare times that the ending is as satisfying as the steps the reader takes to get to there.

I guarantee that when you are finished, you will go back to the beginning and start reading again.
